Inclusive play at the LWL Liborius School in Paderborn

At the LWL Liborius School in Paderborn, a modern inclusive play landscape has been created on the school grounds, offering a wide range of play and movement opportunities for all pupils – regardless of their motor or sensory abilities.

The new play ship was deliberately designed to be as accessible as possible: wide ramps, easy-to-reach play areas and clearly recognisable structures enable children with physical impairments to join in actively. Different levels and tactile materials provide extra sensory stimulation and encourage independent exploration.

The water play area invites shared experiences: easy-to-use pumps, varying heights and well-accessible play zones ensure that children with all kinds of support needs can experience water, direct it and explore it through play.

Another highlight is the multi-bay swing, which lets several children swing at once and creates cooperative movement experiences. It playfully supports social interaction and is designed so that children who need support can swing along safely.

The result is an outdoor space that brings movement, participation and shared learning together – and consistently carries forward the inclusive ethos of the LWL Liborius School.
