Moers, Grafschafter Museum at Moers Castle

A journey into medieval Moers

Moers Castle is the oldest known building in the town of Moers. Where the last countess and her entourage lived in the 16th century, there is now a museum. The associated playground has been redesigned by us under the theme “Moers Castle and the early modern period”.

At the centre stands a climbable play castle modelled on Moers Castle. Children can climb it in many different ways – via a wooden ladder, climbing net, climbing log, rubber band bridge or climbing wall – so everyone can find an ascent that matches their abilities. The quickest way down is via the slide or the fireman’s pole.

A stepped set of horizontal bars next to the castle adds further play value.

In the sand play area there is a dedicated sand-and-role-play zone. A step-free walkway leads through the “castle gate” to a play platform with sand lift, chute and funnel. From there, balance beams, timber bollards and a net bridge lead to a small climbing unit with a slide shaped like a farmer’s cart, complete with rocking donkeys.

This area is also suitable for the very youngest visitors from the age of one, as are the adjacent balance-mikado elements and the swings.

As a special feature, some pieces of equipment include wooden information boards with facts about medieval life and the museum exhibitions at Moers Castle.
