The outdoor area of the new nursery in Cologne-Mauenheim was designed as a neutral play landscape. A terrain of hills and dips, sand ‘deserts’, sneaking paths, log steps and rock stairways creates varied spaces and inspiration for children’s play.
Surrounded by trees and flowers, the play equipment in robinia timber and stainless steel blends seamlessly into the setting. Via a mountaineer-style ramp, brave explorers reach the top of the hill and swoosh down the wide slope slide into a sand area, where they can dig and build at a sand play table. A special feature is the tabletop, which includes small elements that encourage play with all the senses.
Children can feel a ring-shaped raised wooden edge, small holes for sieving sand, as well as a stainless-steel pyramid and a stainless-steel hemisphere.
Hidden in the greenery, there are balancing posts, a balancing rope, a jumping boulder, a shallow stream bed and rotating water channels to discover.
