Landshut, Bayernwaldpark

In Bayernwaldpark in Landshut, a comprehensively refurbished inclusive playground has been delivered. The project was developed with children’s participation from primary schools and Lebenshilfe, with participation costs of around €300,000 and roughly 1,000 hours of work by the city’s parks department. Proven existing equipment was retained and complemented by new, harmoniously designed play features.

The site is divided into a variety of play areas for different age groups. Two large climbing structures with platforms, towers, climbing nets and balance ropes – plus a climbing tube and tunnel slide – offer challenging physical play. A wheelchair access point with a transfer platform, an inclusive roundabout, a sky swing, an inclusive swing seat, horizontal bars and table tennis tables are also provided.

A sand and water play area with pump, play platforms, a toddler slide with ramp, a sand crane, play boxes, an inclusive turntable and a communication element rounds out the offer for younger children. In addition, there is a water play package, a trampoline, a playhouse, spring riders, football goals and other movement features. Natural materials such as wood and stone blend aesthetically into the landscape.

A special highlight around the project was the 3rd specialist conference “Playground for All – Planning Inclusive Play Spaces” in October 2025. Experts, planners and representatives from towns and local authorities were able to exchange views on current developments and experience the inclusive playground first-hand – including a practical self-test on site using wheelchairs and other aids.

With this facility, Landshut sends a clear message for inclusion, diversity and high play value – realised with expertise, children’s participation and thoughtful design. The playground promotes coordination, balance, creativity and social interaction, giving all children the chance to play, explore and try things together.
