The 17th alla hopp! park opened in Grünstadt in August. Sandra Zettel, the Dietmar Hopp Foundation’s project lead for the initiative, explains the idea behind alla hopp!: “We wanted to create a way to bring people of all generations together and encourage them to do sport and enjoy social interaction. With a single initiative, we were able to cover all of the Foundation’s areas of support at once – sport, education, medicine and social affairs.”
Following a series of participation processes, the planning team led by landscape architect Dirk Schelhorn gathered – and largely implemented – the future users’ wishes. The result is a facility very much to the taste of Grünstadt’s residents.
Key attractions include the wheeled-sports area and the bouldering rock for skaters and climbers, the expansive timber play and climbing landscape with integrated slide, as well as the intergenerational swings, the balancing beam and the balancing route made of timber and stone that links the two parts of the long, linear site.
Mayor Klaus Wagner adds: “With the opening of the alla hopp! park, Grünstadt has achieved a goal that was previously dismissed as a fairy tale for cost reasons: activating the brownfield land along the railway line in the heart of the town.” He continues: “The prospects for Grünstadt in terms of leisure, fitness and communication – and ultimately quality of life – are being significantly enhanced. The station and its surroundings, and the new housing area currently being developed (‘In der Bitz’), are being hugely improved by the alla hopp! park. Grünstadt thanks the Dietmar Hopp Foundation for this exceptionally generous commitment.” (Source: alla-hopp.de)
